The Influence of Crystal Size Distributions on the Rheology of Magmas: New Insights From Analog Experiments

This study examines the influence of particle size distributions on the rheology of particle suspensions by using analogue experiments with spherical glass beads in silicone oil as magma equivalent. The analyses of 274 individual particle-bearing suspensions of varying modality (uni-, bi- tri- and tetramodality), as well as of polymodal suspensions with specific defined skewness and variance, are the first data set of its kind and provide important insights in the relationship between the solid particles of a suspension and its rheological behaviour. Biotrickling filtration of isopropanol under intermittent loading conditions

This paper investigates the removal of isopropanol by gas phase biotrickling filtration. Two plastic packing materials, one structured and one random, have been evaluated in terms of oxygen mass transfer and isopropanol removal efficiency (RE). Oxygen mass transfer experiments were performed at gas velocities of 104 and 312 m h-1 and liquid velocities between 3 and 33 m h-1. Both materials showed similar mass transfer coefficients up to liquid velocities of 15 m h-1. At greater liquid velocities, the structured packing exhibited greater oxygen mass transfer coefficients. The combined effects of freezing and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) (100% N2 and 50% N2 + 50% CO2) on some quality characteristics of Giant Red Shrimp (GRS) (Aristaeomorpha foliacea) was studied during 12-month storage. The Bcl-2 protein family comprises both proand antiapoptotic members that control the permeabilization of the mitochondrial outer membrane, a crucial step in the modulation of apoptosis. Recent research has demonstrated that the carboxyl-terminal transmembrane domain (TMD) of some Bcl-2 protein family mem-bers can modulate apoptosis; however, the transmembrane interactome of the antiapoptotic protein Mcl-1 remains largely unexplored. Rheological characterisation of cold bitumen emulsion slurries

The performance of cold bitumen emulsion (CBE) mixtures is strongly linked to an optimised design of the binder blends and mastics. Types and dosages of bitumen, mineral additions and the workability must be characterised and optimised. Abstract This work focuses on a broad class of uncapacitated p-hub median problems that includes non-stop services and setup costs for the network structures. In order to capture both the single and the multiple allocation patterns as well as any intermediate case of interest, we consider the so-called r-allocation pattern with r denoting the maximum number of hubs a terminal can be allocated to. Monte Carlo simulations of the solid-liquid transition in hard spheres and colloid-polymer mixtures

Monte Carlo simulations at constant pressure are performed to study coexistence and interfacial properties of the liquid-solid transition in hard spheres and in colloid-polymer mixtures. The latter system is described as a one-component Asakura-Oosawa (AO) model where the polymer's degrees of freedom are incorporated via an attractive part in the effective potential for the colloid-colloid interactions.
